It is no secret that I love Mexican food. Often places can be disappointing so a lot of the time I goto the same restaurant over and over again. My friend Marci took me out of my comfort zone to a place that I had never even heard of. Much to my surprise it was on South Street, a street that I usually try to stay far from (it has really gone downhill as of late). As soon as I walked in, I knew that this food was going to be the real deal. The decor made me feel as though I was in a restaurant in Mexico. The first thing you see when you walk in is a full bar with all different types of tequilas. It is a smaller space so I do suggest making reservations for dinner. It was pretty packed on a Monday night and we quickly found out why!
Marci and I were seated pretty quickly and our server was really nice and knowledgeable about the menu. We knew we had to try the margaritas… When in Rome, right? I played it safe with La Granada. It was delicious and even better than I expected. The waitress suggested that Marci try the Pineapple-Chipotle margarita since she likes everyyyything spicy. She enjoyed her drink as well. They were on the larger side.
La Granada $11.00 – Herradura Reposado, freshly squeezed lime juice, and imported Pome pomegranate liqueur, garnished with fresh pomegranate seeds and a slice of grapefruit.
Pineapple-Chipotle Margarita $11.00 - House chipotle infused tequila, Patron Reposado and pineapple juice served on the rocks with a salt and sugar rimmed glass, garnished with pineapple.

Chips & Salsa - These had to be home-made chips! The salsa was definitely fresh. One was described as being ‘hot’ but was pretty tasty for what I am used to.
These chips were crunchy and delicious too. They came with some fresh salsa and another salsa that the waitress described as being spicier. It was tolerable. We were almost going to ask for a second serving when our nachos arrived. We chose to have ours with chicken and the plate was empty in less than 5 minutes! You have to get these as an appetizer. We inhaled them. Yum.
Nachos de la Frontera $7.00 – Home-made corn tortilla chips, topped with refried black beans, melted queso Chihuahua, salsa Mexicana, crema Mexicana, and your choice of chicken, ground beef, or grilled vegetables. Additional toppings $1 extra.
Quesadilla de Pollo $7.00 – Two grilled flour tortillas filled with shredded chicken breasts, queso Chihuahua and salsa Mexicana.
This was the only selection that left much to be desired. The quesadilla was definitely no frills. I would not recommend it and neither would Marci. But that’s what you get for coming to a restaurant with so many options and getting a dang quesadilla, girl!
My sandwich, on the other hand, was SO good. I cannot remember the last time I got so messy eating something. The chicken was super flavorful and juicy. The black bean spread was a great touch. I also liked the Oaxaca cheese, which I had never had before. If you like chicken sandwiches, this one will knock your socks off =)
Torta Mexicana $10.50 - Achiote marinated chicken breast with a black bean spread, tomato, avocado, onion, melted Oaxaca cheese and chipotle salsa.
We forced ourselves to try a dessert. It was some sort of cake and very good. From what I understand, all of their desserts are made in house as well.
We already promised ourselves that we were going back to try some of their fuller dinner options when we are feeling hungrier. I will warn that the dinner platters start at about $20.00. From what we saw on our first visit (minus the quesadilla) it is going to be worth every cent. They also serve breakfast, so keep that in mind if you are ever in the area early and your stomach is rumbling.
Have you been here before? What did you think?
